New Glow Flooring is a hardwood floor refinishing company based in Maple Plain, Minnesota, serving homeowners across the Minneapolis West Metro. We do refinishing, buff and coat, installation, cleaning, and repair.
We are a small operation by design. Justin Gleason started the company with his dad over a decade ago, and today Justin is still the one who shows up to your house, looks at your floors, and does the work. The person who quotes your job is the person who does the job. That is not an accident — it is how we choose to operate.
Justin grew up around construction. His dad was a contractor his whole career, and Justin spent years working alongside him before focusing on hardwood floors full time. He launched New Glow Flooring with his dad over a decade ago and has been doing this work in the Twin Cities ever since.
He is not running a crew or managing jobs from an office. He is on the floor, doing the sanding, applying the finish, and making sure the result is right before he leaves. If it is not right, it bothers him — and that is not marketing language, that is just who he is.
When he is not refinishing floors, he is mountain biking, telemark skiing, or talking about hardwood floors. His wife Marissa keeps the business running behind the scenes and built the website you are reading right now. They have two kids in club volleyball and a dog who has probably walked across more freshly finished floors than Justin would like.

We are not the cheapest option in the West Metro. We are not trying to be. What we offer is a craftsman who has been doing this for over 15 years, treats your home with care, communicates clearly from start to finish, and does not leave until the job is done right.
We also believe in being honest about what your floors actually need. A lot of homeowners come to us thinking they need a full refinish when a buff and coat will do the job — and cost significantly less. We would rather tell you that than sell you a service you do not need.
Hiring someone to work on your home is a real decision — especially when it involves inviting a stranger in, living without your floors for a few days, and trusting them to get it right.
Here is what makes New Glow Flooring different:
One person, start to finish. Justin is the estimator and the craftsman. The person who walks through your home and prices the job is the person who shows up with the equipment and does the work. No handoff, no crew you've never met.
Honest about what you actually need. A lot of homeowners come in expecting a full refinish when a buff and coat will do the job for significantly less. Justin will tell you that — and explain why — before you spend a dollar.
Over 15 years in hardwood floors in Minnesota. Justin knows how Twin Cities homes are built, how Minnesota humidity affects wood floors through the seasons, and what products hold up in this climate.
Serving the West Metro since 2010. Maple Plain, Minnetonka, Plymouth, Eden Prairie, Wayzata, Edina, St. Louis Park, Golden Valley, Hopkins, Medina, Orono, and surrounding communities.

This is something Justin talks about with almost every customer, and it surprises a lot of people.
Minnesota's seasonal humidity swings — dry winters, humid summers — cause hardwood floors to expand and contract more than in most other states. That movement is normal. It is not a sign that something went wrong or that the floor was installed incorrectly.
What it means practically is that gaps between boards will open up in winter and close in the summer. Floors that look perfect in July may show small gaps in January. This is the nature of wood in a Minnesota climate, and any hardwood floor owner in this state needs to understand and accept it.
Justin factors this into every project — from the products he recommends to the way he advises on acclimation before installation. If you have questions about how your floors should behave through a Minnesota winter, that is exactly the kind of conversation he has during estimates.

Often the first option we recommend when floors look worn but the wood underneath is still in good shape.

Full sanding and refinishing for floors with deeper wear or finish failure.

New hardwood flooring installed for remodels, additions, or replacing carpet.

Targeted repairs for damaged boards, gaps, squeaks, or areas that need spot replacement.

Professional deep cleaning for floors that have lost their luster but don't need refinishing yet.

Justin has a dog named Benton — and Benton has strong opinions about where he is and is not supposed to be. So when you mention your dog during an estimate, Justin is not judging you. He is nodding along.
Dogs are probably the number one thing that accelerates wear on hardwood floors. Nails drag across the finish, accidents happen, and high-traffic dog paths — usually between the back door, the food bowl, and wherever they are not supposed to be — tend to show wear years ahead of the rest of the floor.
The good news is that most dog-related floor damage looks worse than it is. Surface scratches and dull finish in the dog zones are usually a buff and coat situation, not a full refinish. And if the damage has gone deeper, refinishing can make floors that have lived a full dog life look brand new.
Either way, Justin has seen it before. He will give you an honest read on what your floors actually need — and he will not make you feel bad about the dog.
Because the dog is worth it. And Justin can't wait to meet yours.

Yes — and honestly, it is one of the best ways to do it. You are already out of the house, there is no disruption to your daily routine, and your floors are ready to go when you get home. As long as Justin has the dates open on his calendar, vacation timing works great. Mention it when you fill out the Quick Quote form and he will let you know if he can make it happen.
Justin generally keeps a typical Monday through Friday work week. That said, he can sometimes accommodate weekend scheduling depending on the project and time of year. The best way to find out is to reach out — if there is a way to make it work, he will let you know.

Minnesota's dry winters cause wood to shrink and lose moisture, which opens small gaps between boards. This is normal seasonal movement for hardwood floors in Minnesota and is not a sign of a problem. Gaps typically close in summer when humidity rises. Justin discusses this with every customer so there are no surprises.
